1.  Alicante Golf

Situated at Playa de San Juan, very near to Alicante, this modern, balanced course and was designed by Severiano Ballesteros.

The course has a par of 72, with six par-3s, six par-4s and six par-5s. The main feature of the course is the vast abundance of water, which makes for quite a tricky round.

The course is flat, not particularly strenuous and you can see the green on all of the holes. It has two unusual features: the first is the lake in the shape of an S (the initial of the designer) surrounding the green on the 9th; the second is the Roman ruins next to the 14th which the player has to clear to reach the green.

2. Bonalba

Situated very near to Alicante, and right next to the Playa de San Juan, the course offers sensational views of the sea and a perfect climate to enjoy a game at any time of year.

With 18 holes and a par of 72, this is an excellent course built on gentle ridges, with wide fairways, undulating greens and strategically located lakes.

The complicated design makes Bonalba an interesting and fun challenge for the golfer and the variety in the holes means there is never a dull moment.

The vegetation is typically Mediterranean and there are plenty of palms and pine trees.

3.  El Plantio

Situated 3 kilometres from the city of Alicante this is an urban course. It has one round of 18 holes and another one of 9, which makes it great for all players. There is also a practice course with covered tees on two levels and capacity for 120 places, an approach course, a putting green and an international golf school.

The 18-hole round has a par of 72, the 9-holer is made up of par-3’s and there is another 18-hole course in the pipeline.

The course is liberally covered with vegetation and the quality of the design and the excellent condition of the greens and fairways really stand out. The rounds are suitable to the requirements and level of all players and so it is a fantastic place for all the family.

4. Alenda

The Alenda Golf Club is situated very close to the Sierra de las Aguilas mountains and the sea, and this location means it has a pleasant climate. It is an 18-hole course, with a gentle, undulating and varied round. It is very entertaining for players of all levels, and you will really need to use all of your clubs. It’s quite a quick round, as all of the holes are linked together and the walks from green to tee are short.

The first nine holes are medium length and favour the accurate player over the big hitter. The holes are easy to play and the fairways are very wide, which helps on the tee shots.

The back nine holes require more concentration, because this is the technical part of the course where accuracy is more important than distance. You have to be careful on the 16th and 18th, as these are the two holes which will decide the final result on your score card.

The greens give a special character to the course because the slopes allow for a wide variety of flag positions and you will need to visualise the break very clearly when putting and hit the ball with just the right amount of “oomph” if you want to hole out in good order.

5.  Real de Faula Club de Golf, Benidorm

This course, with its characteristic Nicklaus design, is in the American style with wide fairways and exquisitely shaped greens, and is 6,576 metres long. The views of the Mediterranean and Finestrat mountain range are fantastic.

The area is completely unspoilt so you will be able to enjoy your game in completely natural surroundings, with views of the sea and the mountains in the spectacular setting of the Levantine Mediterranean mountain range.

6.  La Marquesa

Situated 58 kilometres from Alicante on the N-332. It is located in a flat valley between mountains, and the layout of the round alternates between long holes and short ones. It is not excessively difficult and so players of all levels will enjoy it.

The most difficult factor lies in the characteristic layout of the greens, with their attractive and complicated slopes.

7.  La Finca

The La Finca golf club lies in natural surroundings of great beauty and with fantastic views. Its facilities are open to those people who want to play golf in the heart of nature while being able to enjoy the beaches, sailing clubs and a host of other facilities and services just a few minutes away.

It is the newest course in the province of Alicante and while it has been open to the public for some weeks it has not yet been inaugurated officially.

La Finca golf course is situated at the foot of Mount Escotera, in the municipality of Algorfa, right in the heart of the Segura region.

Designed to host top tournaments, La Finca golf course has the greatest variety of greens of any course on the Costa Blanca, ranging in size from very large to very small.

In addition, the course has a reserve hole so that, in the event that one of the holes has to be closed off unexpectedly, players are still able to complete a full 18-hole round.

Several lakes with running water and reed beds along the course add beauty and difficulty to the game, and have made the course the home of a wide variety of migratory water birds, such as ducks and egrets, while the interior of the course is home to olive and palm trees, thus creating a beautiful backdrop of vegetation with a distinctly Mediterranean flavour.
